The Tal Shiar, a Romulan secret service, manages to integrate a Borg transwarp drive into the IRS Rihan. The necessary technical information comes from the memory of a single surviving Borg – it is the former Captain Edwards. There is a fateful meeting of the Rihan and the USS Angström. To escape discovery, the Romulans destroy the research vessel. At the same time, the Federation’s own Transwarp prototype is operational – the USS Yorktown.
